Cross-stitching doodle with Our Community Tools!

Hi there,

I hope you are doing well! Today's post is a cross-stitch doodle featuring a few tools from the Our Community Tools store: an oval embroidery hoop, 14-count aida fabric, and a pack of multicolor embroidery thread.

First I got a rough cut of the aida fabric and placed it in the embroidery loop. I usually use wooden embroidery loops, but I wanted to try out the different shapes that are unique to the plastic material. The colors are also fun and offer colorful inspiration while cross-stitching. The screw to tighten the loop also allows for great tension on the aida fabric, which is a bit thick.

The aida fabric is 14-count which is great for beginners because it means the intersections are big, defined, and overall easier on the eyes. The 14-count also allows for large needles which helps a lot.

Once the aida fabric was secured in the frame, I used a pencil to sketch out a doodle. I already had a small heart that I cross-stitched to test out the different shades of pink embroidery thread. I decided to doodle a cute little fire that looks up at the cross-stitched heart! Originally I was going to sketch wood logs to make the fire look like a cute campfire. But since I am still a beginner cross-stitcher, I decided to just stick to the fire sketch.

The sketch acted as my cross-stitch pattern. I started at the outside edges and worked the thread towards the center, ending with the eyes. This method was easier for me to follow because I used one color thread at a time and did not have to switch back-and-forth between colors. This method was also helpful for keeping the back of the cross-stitch simple and neat.

I had a lot of fun with this spontaneous sketch because I got to test out different colors in the pack.

Thank you for following along with my cross-stitching journey!

Below this post you will be able to view the products used in this project. Talk to you soon, and happy crafting!
